There’s no hiding the ball here!
Here is the tech I use in my solo law firm.
A few of my favorite things…
Calendar: Google Calendar. Hands down. The best calendar system ever.
Calendaring System: Calendly
Project management: Asana. I love having everything in one place and my paralegal and I always have a snapshot of what needs to be done and when.
Virtual Receptionist: I use Smith AI. This is a great way to ensure your phones get answered while reducing distractions.
Billing software: I currently use MyCase (I’ve previously used Smokeball, Practice Panther, and Clio).
Website: I use Findlaw for my law firm, but starting out, I used Squarespace. They have amazing designs and it’s only like $120/year!
Cloud storage: Dropbox. Hands down. Pay for the business version.
PDFs: Pay for the Adobe Pro. Totally worth it.
Virtual phone number: Grasshopper. Such a life saver! I can use my personal number and through the Grasshopper app, I can call and text clients through my work’s virtual phone number.
Fax: Yes, people and companies still fax :) Metrofax has been great.
How to open your law firm for under $2,500.
When I opened my law firm back in 2016, I knew I had to keep my overhead low. I didn’t have a bunch in savings to cover me; I had enough to set up shop and then it was all on me to get out there and start making money. In this video, I talk about what my expenses were and how I opened my law firm on a shoestring budget. While this video is from 2022, it still has valuable information to help you as you put together your budget for your law firm.
